ANDREA CARLESI

Andrea Carlesi was born in Florence and now lives in Pistoia.

He graduated in Foreign Commerce and also in the French Horn. He now plays in several symphony orchestras, chamber groups and also many operatic orchestras.  He plays in concerts and operas all over  Tuscany and lately played in a concert at Musikverein “Golden Hall” in Vienna, arguably the most famous concert hall in the world.

Together with his sister Claudia and other members of the Carlesi and Zucconi families, he runs the farm and winery, Fattoria Il Piano. He also runs his own private estate, producing extra virgin olive oil.

In recent years he has been dedicating a lot of his time to his other passion: historical research into Italy during the Second World War.

He is now a published author on this subject and his first book, about protecting Italian art from war damage during 1943-1945, is credited in the best seller “Saving Italy” by Robert M. Edsel, the book which was source material for the film “Monuments Men”, starring and directed by George Clooney.
